some big hammer 5 inch swim baits Halloween Color
6 inch yum money minnows -pearl color
suggestions to Other lures are welcome

  1. I’d go with the Big Hammers on a one-ounce lead jig head and bounce them on the bottom. Same with Scampies.

    Instead of the Kastmaster, see if you can a hold of a one- or two-ounce iron… err… diamond jig.

    Those Money Minnows are made mainly for largemouth bass… I really don’t think you’d get more than one halibut on one of those, their teeth’ll destroy it.

  2. a krokodile is a good halibut lure as are all the “scampi” type twin tail jigs. l have had decent results on those shore casting with bright orange, pink and chartreuse colors. you should always carry colors of anchovies and sardines no matter what type lure it is as well as some brown bait colors (croakers, queenfish, perch).
    if you are fishing on the base at Mugu, try between the inlet and where the old pier is/was. but you probably already knew that.
    the length of beach at Zuma has halibut as does all around point dume.
    then again, off of northern ventura county and all of santa barbara county beaches if you care to drive that far.
