How much fishing line should I put on a reel that holds 200 yards of 20 lb test line?

I bought 900 yards of the 20 lb test but my reel only holds 200 yards of the 20 lb test. Do I have to cut the line down to 200 yards? Because that seems difficult.

  1. Just spool the line in until the spool gets spool. Geez Louis you don’t need exactly 200 yards. Hell depending on what you’re fishing for 120 yards should be enough.

  2. What is difficult about cutting the line? The reel only holds 200 yards, you have to cut it. I have never seen a reel that holds 900 yards.

  3. just put enough line on there it wont fall over and get all tangled up. So just spool it and when it gets full cut the line and save the rest.

  4. As a general rule of thumb when filling your reel , fill it to within 1/8th inch from the top of the spool . Any more will give yu many backlashes and any less will give yu less distance.
