Follow-up question about perfect gift lol, regarding fishfinders?

I’m looking into getting a fishfinder as a birthday gift for a fisherman, but is it likely that he already has one? What I mean is, are they popular and is it standard for most people who fish to own one? I would like to try to avoid spending the money on something he probably already has, if that is possible. Thanks again!

Does anyone have some expertise with depthfinders and fishfinders?

My husband is looking for a depthfinder/fishfinder for a small lake in Western PA. Fishing includes crappie, stripper, walleye and catfish. The systems that are out there are a little confusing for me (I am buying for a gift). I want to find a good one but I would also like to stay under $250, is this possible? I figure it must be something like buying a computer, so it’s not like he needs depths of 800′, but lots of the systems claim that and also speeds of 70mph. Our lake doesn’t allow motors past 20hp :-). Thanks in advance for your help.
