  1. I am a spinning rod fan myself. I have a couple of ultra light set up for crappie and bluegill, I have 1rod for jigging and a couple for running crank baits and a few for throwing bigger lures like for bass etc.

  2. You should buy a good medium or medium heavy action spinning or spincast rod and reel combo. As far as brand, I suggest Shimano. Abu Garcia also makes good reasonably priced tackle. but I have fished and guided for many years and havn’t found anything that holds up better than Shimano in the lower to medium price ranges.

For tackle and gear, you can buy Kits at walmart or bass pro shops. each kit is built especially for each of the species that you want to fish for and will contain all the lures and tackle that you need to get started. GOOD LUCK!

  3. For all-around fishing, nothing more than a Shakespeare Mantis spinning combo and 8lb mono is needed. It’s what I use and I found the rod and reel on-sale for $15. Zebco 33’s also work for all-around fishing.
