What would be a decent reel to put on this rod?

I have a 6′ medium/heavy action baitcasting rod, that I really do like. However, I have a spincast reel on it and I’m wanting a baitcast. Target species is largemouth bass, and I’d like to use it for heavier stuff, spinnerbaits and jigs mostly. I’ve been looking at a Daiwa Procaster? Any recommendations under $70

  1. If your looking at a Daiwa look at the Megaforce reel with the twitching bar. I have had one for 2 years now and love it. If you fish a lot of jigs and soft plastics its great. It is a high speed reel and I found is not good for cranks but nice for spinnerbaits. At 70 bucks it’s right in your price range.

  2. Occasionally, Quantum Accurist reels go on sale for under 80 bucks. I don’t know a thing about Daiwa products. Keep an eye on the bargain bins!

  3. I’ve suggested this reel many times and it’s currently on clearance at BPS. Designed on the old Lews Speed Spool frame; get one before they disappear.I actually OWN this reel and it performs as described- SUPER-long, easy, casts. – http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90570____SearchResults

Make sure to purchase the higher speed version.

This is a BARGAIN at $59….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve caught over 300 fish with my reel and it still works great.

  4. If you have to have a baitcaster I prefer Abu Garcia Ambassador. You could find a used one on Ebay for that price range.
